I was literally just having a conversation with my kids this week about how "weird" isn't a bad thing --as they both have experienced being called "weird" at their new school this year. My comment was "good! what kind of weird are you and what kind of weird are they? we're all weird, lets celebrate that more." This post of yours made me smile, and gives me a fond image of young, weird Sara. We definitely would have been friends.
Here are some of my early weirds:
- LOVED reptiles and insects of all kinds, especially toads & frogs. I liked to keep them in a small bucket that i'd carry with me, or if I forgot it, I'd stuff them in my pockets...RIP
- LOVED walking outside barefoot. Had a secret desire to have feet like the early native americans, and be tough like leather. I'd walk and run barefoot on all textures outside to try to achieve this.
- HATED the sensory feeling of fingernails --both having long nails and having them cut. Couldn't stand the feeling of nail polish --it felt smothering.
- HATED scratchy textures like wool and flannel. Couldn't wear any clothing with those fabrics and didn't like hugging people with those fabrics.
I love your weird things.
Here's a few of mine:
-rarely left home without binoculars (mostly) for spying on the animal kingdom
-turned up my nose at any music except jazz and classical until I encountered the Beatles and 10,000 Maniacs in junior high.
-took care of raptors at the local nature center which included (I'm so sorry, Sara) cutting up frozen mice for their lunch.
-tried to save every baby bunny that was "abandoned"
-idea of a perfect afternoon = 1 bag of apples, 1 bag of books, and climbing up into the butternut tree for a few hours.
-used to play Victorian times with my best friend, complete with dress-up in hoopskirts as we pranced around our suburban yard.
lol moment of silence for the mice. Love learning about young Abbey!
This is a great list! On my side I would add:
-Catching creepy crawlers
-using sound effects while speaking
-that shirt you used almost every other day for years
Favorite tees! Thanks for sharing :)
